HYPNOSIS: What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring conscious experience. You are always in control. The body is relaxed while the mind enters a highly focused state. In this state, your mind is directed toward beneficial experiences and outcomes, effecting positive lasting change. You cannot be made to do or say anything that you would not do or say normally. Your ability to reject suggestions of something you would not usually be inclined to do is actually enhanced by the focus level of attention achieved in hypnosis. However, your ability to act upon the affirming suggestions you have worked out with your hypnotherapist is enhanced by the relaxation and heightened concentration.
Hypnosis is a bridge between the conscious mind ( the part of our mind that takes care of the day to day stuff and is the seat of our will), and the unconscious mind (the part of our mind that is really running the show).
When most of us try to change or drop a habit we try to use our will and our success rate is low. This is because our behavior is largely driven by the unconscious, even though we would prefer to have it the other way around.
We are best able to effect change when we engage the unconscious mind through hypnosis where the habit and it's reasons reside. The unconscious mind is where suggestions are heard and accepted.
